Rabia Z on a film 'The Veiled Threat'

Rabia Zargarpur, a Dubai-based Muslim fashion designer, better known as Rabia Z. (the name of her clothing label), a while ago was filming her concern on some people's thoughts: that hijab is a threat.

And here's a flash of the film:

"Questioning the servitude of forced veiling or unveiling in shared spaces, Rabia Z, an Arab, Afghani American Muslim takes on a journey across six nations, hotbeds of the veiling controversy - France, Afghanistan, Pakistan, USA, UK and UAE - to find a solution. Stirring dialogue with everyday people, religious scholars, policy makers and press, trying to understand both sides of the argument; her meetings with other Muslim women - like Jana of Hijab Style blog / Sarah Elenany / Funny Girls - all working towards building cultural bridges reveals heartwarming stories of women affecting change."

Out of the topic, I love to watch Rabia Z's Hijab Style and all her designs in this film... ;)

'A Passion for Fashion': An Interview

Emirati Abaya Designer, Amal Murad, talks about fashion, abayas, and this year's style on The Gulf Today, January 21, 2011.

[Amal+Murad+3.jpg]

What is the inspiration behind your designs?
My main inspiration is our tradition and heritage which I combined with contemporary fashion where I choose only what is suitable for my designs.

Any lines coming up this year? Conceptual sculpture adopts wearable forms that reflect women’s modern lifestyles.

What is your style for 2011? Loose fitting abayas. Creating a luxury retreat, aesthetic in silky jersey qualities and creating maximum drape & exaggerated unstructured silhouettes.

What’s your style tip this year, what’s going to be in?

Want to know the answer and more from Amal Murad? Read the rest of the interview here.

Looks I love of the Golden Globes 2011

Golden Globes Awards, January 16, 2011

Hijab Friendly Red Carpet Looks

Leighton Meester, wearing a long Burberry dress, showgirl shoes,
and a mini deco bag
(Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images, via Guardian.co.uk)

Leighton Meester with her puffy sleeves' dress really made me impressed. I love the puffy sleeves, and the way the dress drapes and its silhouette... Beautiful! The shoes and the bag also add some 'freshness' to the look.

Eventhough one TV's Fashion Programme nominated this look as one of  the nominees for the 'Worst Dressed' in the Golden Globes Awards, still I can't take my eyes out from this look, that I think so gorgeous and sophisticated.

So, just think that each person has their own 'interest' on Fashion... ;)

Hijab styling tips:
1. To get a hijab ready look, sew up 'the split' at the bottom of this dress, or add a layer from the same beautiful fabric with the dress to cover 'the split area'; it could be by wearing an underdress/underskirt or sew a layer underneath the dress where the split is.
2. Try to design your own abaya with puffy sleeves like this... :)

Tilda Swinton in a classic 'everydayness' white shirt teamed up with a 'couture' skirt. So edgy and stylish! Love it.

Ever think about scroll up a bit the front part of your maxi dress and tug in it to your belt?

Well of course you must wear trousers underneath... ;)

Here is the result! :

And this style, I think, certainly will look good with heels... :)

I got this picture from Aishah Amin of Hijab Diaries's Facebook page. Her style is fabulous, sometimes unique.
